TGTAPE is a high-adhesive butyl sealing flashing tape made of butyl rubber compound, protected by a reinforced aluminium metal film. It is a premium butyl flashing tape which is ideal for use in most flashing applications and is polycarbonate safe.
Once installed correctly the butyl flashband will provide years of waterproofing. It is the perfect product for joining your polycarbonate sheets to the wall when construction a lean to conservatory, canopy or carport. Our TGTAPE butyl flashing is a non bituminous flashing tape which is one of the only flashings approved for use with polycarbonate roofing sheets.
Butyl Used as a waterproofing and moisture/vapour sealing system in the building and construction industries has many advantages over Bitumen
Why is Butyl superior to Bitumen?
- Butyl is permanently visco-elastic (highly conformable, withstands expansion and contraction)
- Butyl’s visco-elasticity is retained at low temperatures – soft and conformable to -30°C
- Butyl’s visco-elasticity is retained at high temperatures – does not flow at 110°C
- Butyl is UV Resistant – it does not harden with time
- Butyl has excellent sound and vibration absorption over entire product’s life
- Butyl is self-healing (if punctured will fuse back to re-create seal as sharp object removed)
- Butyl will not stain surfaces (no messy clean-up)
- Butyl bonds to all non-porous standard building materials, bitumen does not
- Butyl is compatible with all common acrylic, polyurethane and neutral cure silicone sealants
- Butyl is resistant to mildew
- Butyl’s application temperature is a wider range: 0° – 40°C. Bitumen’s application temperature is 15° – 30°C.
- Butyl’s operating temperature is Minus 30° – 80°+C. Bitumen’s operating temperature is Minus 10° – 55°C Max.
Applications:
- Roofing (including Polycarbonate & Sheet Metal)
- Facades
- Broken Roof Tiles
- Leaking Gutters
- Chimneys & Roof Lights
- Air Conditioning Pipework
- Caravans & Trailers
- Duct Works
Application details:
Preparation
All loose particles, release agents, dust, paint, rust and other poorly adhering materials must be removed by suitable hand or mechanical preparation techniques. Metallic substrates and plastics (except polycarbonate) should be thoroughly cleaned with solvent e.g. white spirit prior to application. Please allow the solvent to completely evaporate before the tape is applied. PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT APPLY SOLVENTS TO POLYCARBONATE SHEETS. Installation operating temperature +0°C Minimum // +40°C Maximum. At temperatures below +5°C the tape and the substrate should be warmed before application.
All surfaces must be dry and free from dust before and during application. There is no need to prime the surface prior to application.
Application
Cut the flashing tape to the desired length, remove the release liner and press the tape firmly onto the substrate with a suitable pressure roller. All joints must be overlapped by a minimum of 50mm.
Limitations
Not suitable for sealing against water pressure. Butyl adhesives are sensitive to solvents, please check chemical compatibility of the butyl adhesive with the substrate.
